Current Schedule of Plays Enjoyment for patrons of all ages
The first word we use to describe our brand of theatre is "community", and for good reason. Every single actor, director, producer, graphic artist, board member, stage manager, lighting director, sound engineer, and stage hand live in our mountaintop community and donate their precious free time to make live theatre happen in Alleghany County.
Alleghany Community Theatre (ACT) has been around for over 30 years, and has earned a reputation for putting together great performances in a variety of venues throughout our county and in neighboring cities. ACT is completely powered by volunteers, from the cast and backstage crew to the graphic artists and board of directors.

Sweet Delilah Swim Club - and - The Wizard of Oz Late April / Early May, 2025
The Sweet Delilah Swim Club is a comedy written by Jones Hope Wooten. It tells the story of five Southern women who became friends years ago on their college swim team. They hold a tradition to set aside a long weekend every August to gather at the same beach cottage and nurture their life-long friendships while escaping the demands of husbands, kids, and jobs amidst laughter and love. This play focuses on four of those weekends and spans a period of 33 years.
Performances of The Sweet Delilah Swim Club will be held at the Burgiss Barn, on the campus of Thistle Meadow Winery in Laurel Springs, NC. Showtimes are:
April 25, 26 and May 1-3 at 6:30 pm
April 27 and May 4 at 2:00 pm

The Wizard of Oz, adapted by Stephen Hotchner, is a children's version of the classic tale of Dorothy, Tin Man, Scarecrow, Lion, and the Wicked Witch that will be performed as a reader's theatre by the drama class of Alleghany High School, better known as the Trojan Alliance for Dramatic Arts. Performances will take place at the Alleghany County Library in Sparta NC. This production, sponsored by the Alleghany Arts Council and NW Regional Library, will be directed by DJ VanHoy with performances at 5:30 pm on Monday and Tuesday, April 28 and 29, 2025.
No admission will be charged, but donations are certainly appreciated!
