Current Schedule of Plays Enjoyment for patrons of all ages

The first word we use to describe our brand of theatre is "community", and for good reason. Every single actor, director, producer, graphic artist, board member, stage manager, lighting director, sound engineer, and stage hand live in our mountaintop community and donate their precious free time to make live theatre happen in Alleghany County.

Alleghany Community Theatre (ACT) has been around for over 30 years, and has earned a reputation for putting together great performances in a variety of venues throughout our county and in neighboring cities. ACT is completely powered by volunteers, from the cast and backstage crew to the graphic artists and board of directors.

Our Next Live Performance will be...

The Cemetery Club July 5-7, 2024

The Cemetery Club is a play written by Ivan Menchell. Three Jewish widows meet once a month for tea before going to visit their husbands’ graves. Ida is sweet tempered and ready to begin a new life; Lucille is a feisty embodiment of the girl who just wants to have fun; and Doris is priggish and judgmental, particularly when Sam the butcher enters the scene. He meets the widows while visiting his wife’s grave. Doris and Lucille squash the budding romance between Sam and Ida. They are guilt-stricken when this nearly breaks Ida’s heart. The Broadway production starred Eileen Heckart as Lucille. It was made into a film, starring Ellen Burstyn, Dianne Ladd, and Olympia Dukkakis..

The Cemetery Club is a humorous, bittersweet and insightful journey. This ACT production will be directed by Brant Burgiss with performances at 7:00 pm on Friday and Saturday, July 5-6, and at 2:00 pm on Sunday July 7th at the Burgiss Barn (Thistle Meadow Winery), in Laurel Springs, NC.

More plans are underway for the 2024 season, so please stand by.

Better yet, volunteer to be an actor or provide help backstage for a future performance. It's hard to put on a show if the community doesn't get involved. Contact us and get involved!
